ORIENTATION OF THE STUDENTS:22nd
JULY, 2015
The new session began with the introduction of a new course in
the department-Bachelors in Vocational
(Textile & Fashion Technology) 3year degree course.
Hence the Department saw an expansion and a Welcome cum
Orientation Programme for the new students of Home Science, Community Course
and B.Voc students was organized , in which students were made familiar with
the department and they were told about the activities of the last year
,further they were motivated to learn and perform in more better way, so as to
achieve cent percent success in whatever field they go for.
Head of the Department Dr. Vandana Gupta spoke about the
Importance of Home Science subject and its future prospects for the girls.
INTER –CLASS TALENT HUNT :6th
AUGUST, 2015
On 6th August, 2015, The department organised
an interclass talent hunt competition of heritage items namely- Pakhi making,
Phulkari , Dasuti, Crochet, Knitting, Mehandi and Rangoli. For which enteries
were invited from the college students. A good number of students showed
interest and participated in the various heritage items and displayed their
talent in the traditional art and craft.
RANGOLI COMPETITION: 7th AUGUST 2015
On 7th August 2015, an interclass Rangoli competition
was held in which nearly 20 students from different streams participated and
exhibited their talent by decorating the floor in the form of rangoli.
Very colorful and lustrous pattern were made using different materials like saw
dust, flowers, glitters etc.
EVENTS ORGANISED IN LIEU OF INAUGRATION OF
FASHION DESIGNING LAB : 23rd AUGUST,2015
- Department
of Fashion Designing organized a Workshop on “Draping Techniques for
Different Garments”. Mrs Ruchi Sharma, Assistant Professor in
Fashion Designing gave an introduction about Draping. At first,
She explained about the points to be remembered while draping. She told
that draping is a criteria for estimating the fabric required for various
garments’ like skirt, top etc. Students were told about the draping
technique in which muslin cloth is draped on a dress form.
- Mrs
Rekha Rani, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing, gave
demonstration of designing and cutting of a designer gown.

presentation was given by Dr (Mrs.) Khushwinder Gill, Assistant
Professor in Fashion Designing.
She explained that PowerPoint is a highly effective tool to aid
learning, and there are potential benefits of power point
presentation includes

- For
the refreshment of Our Worthy, Dynamic ,Magnanimous Principal Madam, the
Chief Guest of the event, arrangements were made in the Department of Home
Science by Miss. Monica Gautam ,Assistant Professor in Home Science. The
guest was served with a refreshing drink along with South Indian Cuisine.
Principal Madam gave her valuable suggestions and ideas to the students
and the Faculty. She blessed the students to be the Top Most Fashion
Designers and earn while learn and achieve maximum success in the field
they opted for.
CLEANLINESS CAMPAIGN: 1st
SEPTEMBER,2015
Under the Community Development programme the Department
organized a Cleanliness Campaign ,whereby all the students of the department
took responsibility to keep their department and the surroundings clean and
green.
Each nook and corner of the labs were cleaned, spider webs
cleared , window panes cleaned. Students put their whole heartedly efforts to make
their surroundings look good in which they study the whole day long and learn
so much. The clutter from the department was identified and cleared making
space for new things.The activity was enjoyable and at the same
time reflected the importance of Cleanliness and Hygienic living.
COOKING EVENT CUM COMPETITION: 11th SEPTEMBER,2015
Cooking event was planned and organized by the Department on 11th
September, 2015. The event was planned to make students aware of the
nutritional components present in various food items and their combination so
as to enhance the nutritive value. Students made their best efforts to present
the food look best to the eye and very appealing as the saying goes” Food, if
appeals good to the eyes , seems more tasty to the tongue.”All the cooked items
were highly appreciated by the Chief Guest and the faculty members of Home
Science.
CLASS SEMINAR :
- IMPORTANCE OF DIET IN PREGNANCY: 16th
SEPTEMBER,2015
A class seminar for increasing the confidence of the students
and adding teaching skills in the students, a class seminar is the regular
feature of the Department. So, A class seminar of BA III Year on the very
important topic “IMPORTANCE OF DIET IN PREGNANCY” was organized . Student
Natasha discussed how proper diet helps a pregnant woman to nourish the baby
that is growing in her womb and how good nutrition and good care affects the
overall health of the pregnant lady.
- CARE OF PREGNANT WOMEN: 18th
TH SEPTEMBER,2015
Class Seminar on “Care of Pregnant Women” was conducted .The
student of B.AIII Year, Rabia spoke about the need to take extra care of the
pregnant woman and its importance and how her emotional and physical health
affects the growth and development of the foetus.
- IMPORTANCE OF COLOUR AND COLOUR SCHEMES:21st
SEPTEMBER ,2015
Seminar on Importance of Colour and Colour Schemes was delivered
by Twinkle [BA II,] on 21st September,2015.She explained the colour
wheel and properties of colours with examples. Then she explained all the
colour schemes with help of colour wheel i.e Monochromatic colour scheme
,Analogous ,Contrasting ,Double Complimentary and Triad Colour schemes. She
also discussed the importance of colour schemes in dress designing with suitable
examples. All the students grasped properly and participated with full
enthusiasm.
RANGOLI COMPETITION IN LIEU OF SPECIAL
AWARENESS PROGRAM CUM COMPETITION BY ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA:1st
OCTOBER,2015
Rangoli competition was organized in view to bring election
awareness among students .For the same, the venue chosen was again the Very
Prestigious institution, Dev Samaj Post Graduate College for Women, Ferozepur
City. This special Rangoli event was executed by the department of Home
Science. About 25 students of the college brought out extremely beautiful
floral patterns on the floor and gave department a new look. Judges for the
event was Our Worthy Principal Madam, Dr Mrs Madhu Prashar and Dr. Vandana
Gupta, Head, Home Science Department. All the students did their best
creativity. The purpose of the Rangoli competition was to bring awareness among
the youth: To fill colour in each and every person’s life by helping them in
the way one can and bring a smile on each and everybody’s face.
ART &HERITAGE COMPETITION FOR YOUTH
FESTIVAL:3rd OCTOBER,2015
Department organised a competition on Art & Heritage items
(Phulkari, Dasuti, Pakhi Making, Crochet, Knitting, Mehandi). The competition
was organised with the aim to select the best participants that will further
participate in the Zonal Festival. The Judge for the competition is our
Worthy Principal Madam . She gave proper guidance about the selection of colour
and designs. Her valuable suggestions proved useful and students bagged prizes
in Youth Festival Competition.
CLASS ON TABLE SETTING AND TABLE MANNERS:4th
OCTOBER,2015
A special class for the students of B.Vocational of all the 4
streams i.e.
B.Voc[Textile & Fashion Technology]
B.Voc [Global Professionals in Beauty & Aesthetics]
B.Voc [Software Development]
B.Voc[Hospital Administration &Management]
was organised on Table setting and Table
Manners by Miss Monica Gautam. Assistant Professor in Home Science. Home
Science Department arranged this special class so as to inculcate in students
the art of setting the dining table properly and teach them table manners that
they must have while dining formally or informally. The art of properly setting
the table is very important for girls and the tips for doing the same was
explained in practical way to the students. Table manners leave a long lasting
impression on other accompanists.
Students were first demonstrated how to set the table properly
and then they were taught how to eat meal in good way .It was a beneficial
lecture for all the students of B.Vocational students.
GUEST LECTURE ON WARDROBE PLANNING : 4th OCTOBER,2015
A guest lecture for the students of B. Vocational (Hospital
Administration and Management) and B. Voc (Global Professionals in Beauty and
Aesthetics) was organized by the Department of Home Science. Resource person
Mrs. Ruchi Sharma gave a detailed explanation on how to plan wisely and smartly
for a wardrobe, how to match according to the occasion and season. She told
students the very basic difference between cloth and clothes. Madam Ruchi told
importance and points to be taken care in mind while purchasing the clothes.
She also elaborated her valuable speech by telling students how they can
enhance their outfit by simple accessories. The lecture was very beneficial for
students. Students took keen interest and asked related queries.
DEMONSTRATION OF SPOILED FOOD SAMPLES: 9th
OCTOBER, 2015
A demonstration class on visualization of various spoiled food
samples was organised for the students of Home Science. While showing the
spoiled samples, students were explained the various factors and causes
(moisture, temperature, light etc.) behind the spoilage of food samples. All
the students showed a keen interest in observing the samples and they saw the
effect of spoilage on the colour , texture, odour after getting spoiled.
Various questions were asked by the students for preventing the food from
getting spoiled. Preservation techniques for various perishable food items were
guided and explained to the students.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY: 25th
October, 2015
With the vision to empower women, Our Worthy Principal Madam
took a great initiative to start Vocational courses in Fashion Designing and
Clothing Construction Under Community College scheme. For the same, the college
provides free education to poor and needy students.
To empower individual”s and local community, an extension
activity was planned and executed at Government school Village khilchi,
District Ferozepur, to impart moral values to the students .A lecture on value
of education was delivered to motivate them to go for higher education .Our
students had a free interaction with the students and as token of love
distributed notebooks ,stationary and eatables to them.
To cultivate the value of sharing and caring,
students of the department along with their teachers Mrs. Vandana Gupta and
Mrs. Rekha went to leper Home. Around 50 students and faculty members contributed their
presence for this activity. This
gave students an opportunity to help others and to know about the problems of inmates of the home. This was one of the inspiring visits
for the students. Medicines and other basic amenities were distributed by the
faculty and the students to the inmates of the home. The main motive of
this activity was to inculcate in the students the virtue of responsibilities
of others and widens their social activities
Home science department along with HOD Dr. Vandana and other
team members decided to donate for a noble cause for going to Gaushala . Around
50 students and faculty members contributed their presence for this activity.

College , Moga. Students performed their best and bagged prizes. Participants
of Rangoli were further selected for Inter Zonal Festival.

VISIT TO THE CAMPUS:2nd NOVEMBER,2015
UNDER THE Community Development programme the Department

Personality, The Vice Chancellor Of Punjab University, Chandigarh, whereby all
the students of the department took responsibility on their shoulders to make
their department and the surroundings clean , green, and
more beautiful.

PARTICIPATION IN INTER ZONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL:8th
NOVEMBER,2015

College For Women: 57th Inter zonal Youth Festival was hosted by the
Prestigious College of Ferozepur town. The Prize winners of Rangoli (2nd
Prize in Zonal Youth Festival ) competed further in Inter zonal Youth Festival.
Jaspreet, student of B.A III year got a chance to compete with the prize
winners of Zonal Youth Festival of other zones. She had a good learning
experience by participation in Inter Zonal Festival.
Educational-cum-Industrial
Tour: 24th November, 2015
Department of Home Science and Fashion
Designing organized an educational-cum-Industrial tour on 24th Nov,
2015 to Sportking India Limited at Bathinda. Total 20 students of Community Fashion Designing along with two
faculty members visited the industry and learnt in detail the spinning process.
Mr. A P Singh (General Manager HR and Administration) introduced the students
with industry employees – Mr. Aman Lohia (Manager Ringframe Spinning
Production) and Mr. Abhey Rastogi (General Manager Production), Mrs. Aman (HR
Incharge), Mr. K P Singh (General Manager Finishing Section). Then, Mr. Lohia
introduced the students about five different plants in the unit and explained
the functioning in each plant starting from mixing and sorting of raw cotton,
carding process, comber frame, lapper, ring framer, twister, spinning on
spindles, finishing and packaging. After the visit the students assembled in
the conference room and had refreshment. Then, Mr. Abhey Rastogi welcomed the
students and discussed in detail the manufacturing process of yarn. It was a
healthy discussion session. Mr. A P Singh also shared his views regarding the
wider scope of this vocational course and appreciated the interest shown by the
students. It was fully informative visit for the students.
BEST OUT OF WASTE:DECORATION OF MUD TOYS:30th NOVEMBER,2015
To enhance the creativity of the students beyond Fashion
Designing, efforts were made to utilize the potential of students in the fields
other than clothing. So, students tried their best to put their potential in
bringing out the best form the waste. Students decorated the mud toys by
brushing them up with various colours and bringing a new life to them. The art
of students was highly appreciated and was a matter of extremely likeliness by
the faculty members.
Two Day state level workshop on draping technique
and garment CAD software’’:19th-20th Jan, 2016
Two
day state level workshop on “Draping
techniques and CAD Software” was planned and executed for fashion
designing students of this prestigious
institute. Resource Person, Mrs. Harpreet Kaler ,Assistant Professor B.B.K DAV
College, Amritsar taught various skills to drape designer top and skirt on
dress form . the workshop proved very useful for students who were now equipped
with additional techniques of designing the garments.
Mrs.
Preeti Mahajan , Assistant Professor, B .B.K. DAV College, Amritsar
demonstrated a workshop on use and application of “Richpeace textile CAD
software” to the students of fashion designing. She taught students how to
draft and grade the designer dress with the help of CAD software.
Resource
person presented their views on how draping and CAD software can be counted for
the emerging designers. Knowledge of these workshops would give students and
edge over others when applying for jobs. The students availed
full benefits of these
activities. Around 90 students and 5 faculty members attended this technical
workshop. Students received a clear overview to the different tools of Drafting
and Pattern making in a real time scenario.
CLASS SEMINAR
- “PRINCIPLES OF ART”:
1st FEBRUARY, 2016
A Class Seminar on “Principles of Art” was organized by Home
Science Department. Its main objective
of the seminar was to make students aware the Importance of Art Principles and
its Application in every sphere of life. Simranjeet Kaur student of BA II Year
explained all the principles of Art –Harmony, Balance, Proportion ,Rhythm and
Emphasis with suitable examples and Diagram. She also used Audio-Visual Aids to
make the concept clearer. She also answered the queries of the students.
- “HEALTH
EDUCATION”: 2nd FEBRUARY,2016
A seminar on Health Education was organised by Home Science
Department. The main objective of the seminar was to help students understand
the concept of Health , Principles of Health education ,Scope and importance of
health education .Gurjeet Kaur ,Roll no 40 , student of Class B.A.I Class
explained all the aspects of Health Education including Community Health
Education to all the students. The seminar enlightened the students about
Concept of Health Education and its role in society.
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING: 1st-15th
FEB, 2016,
In the department, we believe that students should be given a
hand on experience and thus all our courses are a blend of theoretical and
practical implementation. As part of the curriculum of B.Voc (Textile and
Fashion Technology), industrial training is mandatory to provide the real
insight of working procedure of any organization to increase the employability
factor of students. Department of Fashion Designing organised a Training
programme for the students pursuing B.Voc (Textile and Fashion Technology) from
1st-15th Feb 2016, at “Gupta Hosiery and Weaving
industry” Ludhiana, “Sidhu designer Boutique” Ferozepur city and “Rishi
Fabrics” Ludhiana. This training programme includes learning in various areas -
yarn manufacturing, weaving, finishing, pattern making, cutting, stitching,
quality aspects, labelling and packaging processes. This training provides vast
in depth, hand-on 100% practical experience on various latest technologies
related to Clothing & Textiles.
MAAT PITA SANTAAN DIVAS CELEBRATION :9th
FEBRUARY,2016
Since the
years, Dev Samaj celebrates 16 important relations (our relation with Dev
Samaj, with the animal world, plant world etc. ) so amongst these one most
important relation of every student with her parents was celebrated as “MAAT –
PITA SANTAAN DIVAS” in the department of Home Science on 8 February , 2016,
Principal Madam , the one force regularly guides every student about the
value of our parents.
Head
of the Department, Dr.Vandana Gupta introduced the Importance of celebrating
the same day by sharing her own views and experiences.All the Department
faculty members also shared their views about their parents. Students of BA 1st
year, 2nd year , 3rd Year Home Science and Fashion
Designing , Community course (Fashion Designing ), B. Voc ( Textile &
Fashion Technology) participated with enthusiasm in celebrating the
occasion. This time, poster making competition was organized by Home Science
Department to celebrate the very important day .Students draw out wonderful
pictures depicting the respect and value they have for their parents. Madam
Principal was very happy on seeing the creative art of the students .She judged
the posters and students bagged 1st ,2nd, and 3rd
positions.
Students shared their valuable views that how
they have always observed their parents sacrificing for their children
and fulfilling their needs. Students expressed their views in the form of poems
,songs and gazals.
NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON “JINDEX AUTO PATTERN, MARKING
AND GRADING SOFTWARE”: 15th-19th FEBRUARY, 2016.
Department of Home Science and Fashion Designing organised a
five Day National Technical Workshop on “Jindex Auto Pattern CAD Software for
the B.Vocational &Community Fashion Designing students. Mr.Mohan Cadiyam,
software expert enlightened the students of Fashion Designing about skill set
of CAD Software. Around 90 students and 5 faculty members attended this
technical workshop. Students received a clear overview of the different tools
of Pattern Making, Grading in a real time scenario. The expert started on a
note of the importance of making Project using latest technology existing in a
Industry today.
Workshop on machine embroidery : 20th Feb,
2016
Mrs.
Anchal, Lecturer in fashion Designing, explained the technique of machine embroidery with
ordinary singer sewing machine. Firstly of all she taught the students, how to
remove presser foot and feed dog of the sewing machine. Then she used the
coloured silk embroidery in upper and lower threading. After this, she put the
framed fabric on the needle plate and trained the students in different
embroidery stitches i.e . – running stitch ,chain stitch and satin stitch and
students prepared beautiful samples of machine embroideries.
EXHIBITION- “FASHION TRANSITION”: 27th-28th
FEBRUARY, 2016
The department of Fashion Designing organised an Exhibition
“Fashion Transition” that highlighted Fashion styles adopted in modern era. The
exhibition was for two days i.e. 27th – 28th Feb,2016
inaugurated by our worthy Principal Dr. (Mrs) Madhu Prashar. Exhibition covered
all the themes – Indo-western, Innovation, Traditional, Bridal. The designer
dress depicted the type of fabrics, colours, accessories and style prevalent in
society. The designers of costumes i.e. Community 1st and 2nd
year, B.Voc 1st Semester students of Fashion Designing stated that
such experience was a wonderful experience for them and provided a milestone in
learning process about Fashion and Costumes. Exhibition was visited by faculty
members and students of other departments also and all of them appreciated the
students work.
FASHION SHOW: 16th
MARCH 2016
A very elaborate and dazzling “Fashion Show” was organized
by the students and staff members of
Fashion Designing Department, where the students walked the ramp in breathtaking
lovely outfits designed by the students of Community and B.Voc Fashion
Designing. The judges were hard pressed to reach a decision as almost all the
performances were par excellence. Some prizes had therefore, to be bracketed.
Best and unique dress model received the loudest applause from the audience.
The was the great success and was the talk of the day.
