VAN MAHOTSAVA DAY CELEBRATION

“Van mahotsava” literally means “the festival of forests”. It has gained significant importance every year. Millions of saplings are planted across India in observation of Van Mahotsava. It helps spread awareness about the harm caused by the cutting down of trees, and it is expected that every citizen of India will plant a sapling in the Van Mahotsava week. As we all know that Trees clean the air. They absorb odours and pollutant gases and filter particulates out of the air. Therefore, people celebrate Van Mahotsava by planting trees or saplings in and near their homes, offices, schools and colleges. On 16th July, 2018, Van Mahotsava was celebrated in our college under National Service Scheme Camp. Our honourable Principal ma’am introduced us to the importance of trees in our lives. She emphasized on the tree plantation among people and stresses the importance of trees to reduce the bad effects of global warming and pollution. She then planted a sapling and encouraged the students to do the same.




WORKSHOP ON PREPARING SNACKS USING VARIOUS COOKING METHODS
Home science and Fashion designing department organised a workshop on 19th July, 2018 on Preparing snacks using frying and steaming methods. Idli and cutlets were prepared using these methods. Mrs Anchal gave a demonstration on the preparation of Vegetables and chana dal cutlets by using frying method. Dr Mrs Vandana Gupta gave a demonstration on the preparation of vegetable idli and stuffed idli by using steaming method. Students also learnt the garnishing techniques by using coloured vegetables, sauces, etc. Cooking and housekeeping diploma students and 10+2 Home Science students participated in this workshop. It was a unique experience for the students and they learnt a lot in this workshop.




WORKSHOP ON TABLE SETTING AND TABLE MANNERS
The Basic Table Setting is easy to master and comes in handy at home, over the holidays and at restaurants. Table manners have evolved over centuries to make the practice of eating with others pleasant and sociable.One day Enrichment programme was conducted by Department of Home Science for all of its students on 20th July, 2018 to inculcate in them the basic know-how of table setting and manners. Ms Monika Gautam gave some useful tips and taught some rules to follow while dining anywhere. Students learnt a lot from this enrichment programme.




CAKE MAKING WORKSHOP
Department of home Science and Fashion Designing in order to welcome the fresher students organised a workshop on cake making on 28th July, 2018. Dr Mrs Vandana Gupta gave a demonstration on the preparation on eggless cake using whole wheat flour, cream, milk, vanilla essence, cocoa powder and dry fruits. She gave some useful tips on various icing techniques using whipped cream, cherries and pineapples. All students were curious to learn this new experience and enjoyed the day.



CANDLE MAKING WORKSHOP
Two days Candle Making Workshop was organised in the department of Home Science and Fashion Designing on 30thand 31stJuly, 2018 for the students of B.Voc and M.Sc. Mrs Ruchi Sharma, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing explained the types and amount of material required to make candles. She gave demonstration to prepare candles of different styles. She also demonstrated many methods to decorate candles with flowers, glitters, etc.


WORKSHOP ON HAND MADE ARTICLES
One day Workshop on handmade articles was organised by using waste trims and material by Ms Shweta Thappa to B.Voc students on 1st August, 2018. Students were taught to make different items using waste materials such as waste trims, laces, buttons or beads etc. Students made different handmade articles such as boxes, wall hangings, mirrors, etc.

INTER-CLASS COOKING COMPETITION
Inter-Class cooking competition was held on 3rd August, 2018 in which all the Home Science students participated.A variety of snacks were cooked and displayed by the competitors.All the recipes were well cooked and garnished and were appreciated by all.Winners were announced by Dr (Mrs) Vandana Gupta.




JUDGEMENT IN MEHNDI COMPETITION

Mehndi competition was held in Cosmetology Department on 4th Aug, 2018 wherein many students showed their creativity and innovativeness by participating and making beautiful designs. All the Designs were beautifully made. At last winners were announced by Dr Mrs Vandana Gupta.



INDUCTION PROGRAMME
Every year Department of Fashion Designing conduct an induction meeting for the new batch. In this session, induction meeting was held on 4th August, 2018. This meeting comprises of an open hall interaction with the fresher students. Worthy Principal Ma’am Dr (Mrs) MadhuPrashar, warmly welcomed the fresher students and shared her valuable thoughts and experiences. She also explained the purpose of education, role and responsibilities of students, communication skills, personality development, curriculum details, job prospects and scope of experiences and encouraged the new ones to take participation in each and every activity of college. After that, new students were encouraged to put questions if any. At the end Principal Ma’am thanked them for choosing these B.Voc degree programmes as means for enhancing their education achievements.



QUILTING WORKSHOP
Quilting is a process of sewing two or more layers of fabric together to make a thicker padded material, usually to create quilted garment. Two days’ workshop on quilting techniques was organised by Home Science department on 9th and 10th August, 2018. In this workshop, Mrs Anchal, Lecturer in Fashion Designing, explained the material required and steps involved in quilting the fabric. She demonstrated the technique of quilting and she made many articles like baby bib, baby quilt, bed sheets, pillow covers, cushion covers, mats and many more household utility articles. Almost all students of Home Science and Fashion Designing Department were involved and by learning this technique many of the students prepared household articles. This workshop was a very oriented and students enthusiastically participated in this workshop.




VISIT TO WEDDING EXHIBITION
A visit to Wedding Asia Design Collection at Park Plaza Ludhiana on 18th August, 2018 was organised for B.Voc TFT 3rd year students along with two faculty members




WORKSHOP ON OPERATION OF DOUBLE NEEDLE HEAVY DUTY MACHINES
·         Workshop on “operation of double needle heavy duty industrial sewing machines by Mrs Anchal on 1st Sept, 2018.






STUDENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

Student Enrichment Programme was organised for Hospital Administration and Management students to introduce screen printing and texture prints on 4th Oct, 2018 by Dr.Khushwinder Gill.


INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO SPORTKING, LDH

Industrial Visit to Flat Knit Industries sportking for students of B.Voc TFT along with two faculty members Ms ShwetaThappa and Mrs Anchal on  12th Oct, 2018
Industrial visit to SS Knitwear’sLudhiana was organized by Fashion Designing Department on 14th March 2016. Thirty three students along with two faculty members visited the industry. The purpose of visit was to acquaint the students about working of industrial machines including circular knitting machine, air jet machine etc. Students learnt in detail about finishing and production processes. The production head of the industry, shared his views regarding the wider scope of this vocational courses and appreciated the interest shown by the students.
