INDUCTION PROGRAMME
Every session the new academic year
begins with the enrollment of new student in the department. Since these
students come from varied background and from the very protective school environment,
hence they find themselves lost in new surroundings ,new teachers ,new peers
etc. Hence induction programme is organised to assist these new inducts to
adjust in their new surrounding ,become familiar with their new work and study environment.
The department of H.Sc & Fashion Designing
on 28th July organised an
induction- cum orientation programme for
its 1st year students , where
the students were given information about the department , the subjects that would be taught to them and the teachers who would be supervising them for the semester .Later
they were taken for a round around the college premises to familiarize them
with the facilities available to them .
Later, the senior students of the
department organised a welcome party for their juniors as a gesture to break
the ice and make them comfortable and familiar with their new surrounding and
new study.
Career counselling campaign
In
order to speed awareness amongst the student of 10+2 studying in various
schools of Ferozepur district an awareness cum counselling sessions were
organized by the Fashion Designing Department.
Representatives
from the B.Voc Fashion Designing were assigned to visit different schools to
educate the students of 10+2 regarding the various option available to them
after schooling and the career options available to them.
The
addresses and contact number of the students who showed interest in these courses
was noted to further counsel them ,
before the admission to the new session began.
The
help of village Panchayat was also taken to educate the girls students. Overall,
a good response to the visit was received.
On
11th August, 2017 Inter Class Talent hunt was organized by Home Science and Fashion
Designing Department in the following items:
Phulkari embroidery, Dasuti,
Crochet, Knitting, Pakhi making, Mehandi, Rangoli.
Student entries were invited from various
streams. A good number of students showed interest and participated in various
heritage items and displayed their talent in the traditional art and craft. All
were appreciated by madam Principal and other faculty members. The best student
were selected for the upcoming youth festival.
Workshop and Competition in Candle making
A three days workshop on candle making and designing
was organized for the Fashion Designing Students on 13th -15th
Aug, 2016. Mrs. Rekha Mehta gave the demonstration how to use wax , colors, big
wax candles, jelly candles, flowers, glitters etc. to decorate the simple
candle using different innovative ideas.
The fruitfulness of the workshop was judged by a
competition on 16th August. All the B.Voc and Community Fashion Designing students participated in this competition.
Students displayed their talent by participating in small groups. They made
beautiful candles with different techniques. First, second and third prizes
were distributed to the students by our worthy Principal mam.
Demonstration on Table setting and Table manners
A one day workshop on Table setting & Table manners
was held on 22nd Aug 2016 for the students of Home Science .Since
table setting for different meals and occasion is paramount for host and the
students were taught how to lay the table, set crockery, cutlery and the Etiquettes to follow while serving and
eating the meal and making the guest comfortable.
Demonstration cum workshop on Overlocking Techniques
Two day workshop on
Overlocking Techniques was organized by Fashion Designing department on 23rd
Aug 2016. Mrs. Ruchi Sharma gave the demonstration about threading technique of
the the overlocking machine, method of operating and use of different over
locking techniques to finish the garments. In the ongoing workshop she also taught
the participants how to design the article by over locking technique. The
students exhibited their talent not only by successful use of over locking
method to finish the garments but also designed the garments by using over
locking technique.
Class seminar on “Principles of Art”
A
class seminar on “Principles of Art” was organised by Home Science department
on 1st Sept, 2016 . The main objective of the seminar was to make
students aware about the importance of art principles and its application in
every sphere of life. Harjinder Kaur, B.A II (Roll no.555) explained all the Principles
of art - Harmony, Balance, Proportion,
Rhythm and Emphasis with suitable examples and diagrams. She also used audio-visual
aids to make the concept clearer. She also answered the queries of the
students. The teacher Incharge Dr. Vandana
Gupta appreciated the speaker a
lot for her marvellous performance.
Teacher’s day celebration
Teacher’s
play a major role in making their students responsible citizens of tomorrow and
good human beings. Teacher’s day was celebrated on 5th Sept, 2016 by
students of Fashion Designing department. Students shared their feelings and
affectionate views about the concerned teachers and principal madam and
celebrated the day by cake cutting ceremony. Our worthy Principal Dr. (Mrs) Madhu
Prashar appreciated the student’s emotions and shared the views regarding
importance of teachers in their life.
Invited Lecture on Nutrition Week Celebration
Faculty members of Chemistry department celebrated a
Nutrition week on 7th Sept, 2016. On this occasion Dr. Vandana Gupta
and Miss. Monica Gautam from Home science department delivered a extension
lecture on “Health and Nutrition’ as part of the 1 week long celebration of
Nutrition Week. In order to make the students aware about the basics of Nutrition,
power point and oral presentation on Balanced diet and Healthy eating was presented.

presentation on Fashion Forecasting
A
power point presentation on “Fashion Forecasting” was delivered by Dr.
Khushwinder Gill on 8th Sept, 2016 to acquaint the B.Voc (Textile
& Fashion Technology) students with presentation and communication skills.
She
taught the students about Fashion terms, Forecasting in fashion, Types and advantages
of Fashion forecasting etc. Students also learnt how to make and deliver power
point presentation. This lecture proved very informative for the students.
World
ozone day was celebrated by department of Chemistry on 16th Sept,
2016. A poster making competition was planned to bring awareness amongst the
student to save the planet. “Hazards of ozone depletion” and necessity to “Save
the Environment and our planet” was the main topics. All the posters were very
attractive and informative. Three faculty members from Home science Department-
Dr. (Mrs) Vandana Gupta, Head, Deptt. of
Home Science, Ms. Monica Gautam, Assistant Professor and Dr. Khushwinder Gill
Assistant Professor were invited for the judgement on this occasion. It was
really a very good effort to mark the day by the students of Chemistry
Department.
Community Development Activity
With
the vision to empower women, Our Worthy Principal Madam took a great initiative
to start Vocational courses in Fashion Designing and Clothing Construction
Under Community College scheme. For the same, the college provides free
education to poor and needy students.
To
empower individuals and local community, an extension activity was planned and
executed at Government High School Village
Noorpur Sethan, District Ferozepur, on 20th Sept,2016 to impart
moral values to the students .A lecture on value of education was delivered to
motivate them to go for higher education .Our students had a free interaction
with the students and as token of love distributed notebooks, stationary and
eatables to them.
To cultivate the value of sharing and caring, students of
the department along with their teachers Mrs. Vandana Gupta along with Dr.
(Mrs.) Khushwinder Gill went to leper
Home on 21st Sept, 2016. Around 50 students and faculty
members contributed their presence for this activity. This gave students an opportunity to help others and to know about the problems of inmates of the home. This was one
of the inspiring visits for the students. Medicines and other basic amenities
were distributed by the faculty and the students to the inmates of the home.
The main motive of this activity was to inculcate in the students the virtue of
responsibilities of others and widens their social activities.
Home science department along with HOD Dr.
Vandana and other team members decided to donate for a noble cause for going to
Gaushala. Around 50 students and
faculty members contributed their presence for this activity.
With the purpose of letting the students know how behind
the make out of jewellery, a workshop for the students of this prestigious
institute, on “Accessory Designing” was planned and executed in the department
on 27th Sept, 2016. Dr. (Mrs.)
Khushwinder Gill taught various skills to make out attractive jewellery and accessories
using beads, rags, safety pins, paper quelling, dry flowers, sequin work etc .
Attractive neck pieces , bracelets, earrings were made by using cheap and best
sources .The workshop proved very useful for Fashion Designing students who are
now equipped with additional knowledge
of how to elaborate their self designed garments with uniquely designed
accessories.
A competition of accessory designing was organized
for the B. Voc.TFT students. All students participated with full enthusiasm and
designed theme based accessories. Themes included for accessory designing were -Tribal,
Traditional, Ethnic, Fusion and Contemporary. Students performed excellent
work. Our worthy Principal Mam encouraged the students for their skilled work
and distributed the appreciation prizes to the students.

Enrichment Programme
Under
the able guidance of our respected Principal mam, Department of Fashion Designing conducted a three day workshop (4th
-6th Oct, 2016) to impart practical training in the field of Block
printing, T-shirt painting and Candle making to the students of Mathematics
Department. The purpose of this Enrichment programme was to make them
proficient in a skill besides their own field of expertise.
In
this enrichment programme, Dr. Khushwinder Kaur Gill taught the different
methods of printing and gave demonstration of Block, Stencil & Spray
printing on fabrics. Students made elegant printing designs on fabrics and
exhibited the prepared garments.
Ms.
Samiksha Sood taught the Fabric Painting Techniques with organza fabric and students learnt various painting
ideas.
Mrs.
Rekha Mehta gave the demonstration on Candle making and its decoration and gave
innovative ideas for decorating a candle with different methods.
Under the able guidance of our respected Principal
mam, Department of Fashion Designing
conducted a one workshop (10th Oct, 2016) to demonstrate different
techniques of Saree draping to the students of PG Department of Cosmetology & Health Care. The purpose of this
Enrichment programme was to enhance the skills of students in these activities.
Mrs. Ruchi Sharma, Assistant Professor gave
demonstration on saree draping techniques. Different techniques were taught by
the teacher to students of cosmetology and health care. Students showed keen
interest in learning the draping styles.

Two day Enrichment programme was conducted by Department of Computer Science for the
students of B.Voc (Textile & Fashion
Technology) on 18th-19th Oct, 2016 to enhance their
computer skills. Mrs. Meenakshi and Ms.Sheena delivered a lecture on ‘How to
use Microsoft office’ and also gave demonstration on using Microsoft word and Power Point
presentation. Students of B.Voc (Textile and Fashion Technology) learnt a lot
from this enrichment programme.
Cleanliness Campaign
Under
the community development programme the department organized a cleanliness campaign
on 18th - 19th October, 2016, whereby all the students of
the department took responsibility to keep their department and the surrounding
clean and green to fulfill the dream – Swatchh Bharat Abhayan of our worthy
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
Each
nook and corner of the labs were cleaned, spider webs cleared, window panes
were cleaned. Students put their whole heartedly efforts to, make their
surrounding look good in which they study the whole day long and learn so much.
The clutter from the department was indentified and cleared making space for
new things. The activity was enjoyable and at the same time reflected the
importance of cleanliness and hygienic living.

festival
58th Zonal Youth Festival
was hosted by the prestigious institution Dev Samaj Post Graduate College for
Women, Ferozepur city from 22nd
-25th Oct, 2016. Seven students of Home Science & Fashion
Designing Department took active participation in ART &HERITAGE ITEMS. All
the participants performed their best
and bagged prizes as ---Rangoli: 2nd

Participation
in inter zonal youth festival
58th Inter zonal
Youth Festival was held at Government Girls College, Ludhiana from 2nd -5th Nov, 2016. The
Prize winners of Zonal Youth Festival competed further in Inter Zonal Youth
Festival. In this Festival, students performed their best and bagged positions
as: Phulkari: 3rd , Crochet: 1st, Mehandi : 1st
and Pakhi Making : 1st.
State Level Workshop on
Cancer Awareness and Prevention
Students of Home Science and Fashion Designing
Department actively participated in three day State level workshop on Cancer
Awareness And Prevention organized in collaboration with Capitol Hospital, Jalandhar on 19th Oct, 2016. In this seminar,
expert doctor Dr.Pruthi delivered the
lecture regarding the awareness ,causes and prevention of cancer disease. They
provided life long validity cards treatment for cancer patients with 20%
discounts. It was very informative seminar for all students and teachers.

Celebration
The
Holy soul BHAGWAN DEVATMA JI’s birthday was celebrated by Home Science &
Fashion Designing Department on 10th & 11th Nov, 2016.
Quiz and poster making competitions were organized in the department. There were three teams for quiz -.

Jagandeep, Ramandeep).
All the students performed very well in competition
And Team B was the winner. 1st ,2nd and 3rd
prizes were given to students.
Around 20 students participated in poster making
Comptition. They depicted the preaches of BHAGWAN DEVATMA JI’s in the form of
slogans.

Industrial visit to Sportking and Rishi Fabrics, Ludhiana
Department of Home
Science and Fashion Designing organized an educational-cum-Industrial tour on
19th Nov, 2016 to Sportking
(Classic wears) Ludhiana and Rishi Fabrics Pvt Ltd. Ludhiana.. Total 58
students of B.Voc Fashion Designing along with two faculty members visited the
industry and learnt in detail the different production and finishing processes
. Mr. Nitin Sharma (Production Head) and Mr. Ramandeep Singh (Merchandising
Manager) introduced the students with industry employees and explained the
functioning of Heat transfer printing machine, logo making machine, electric
cutters, advanced industrial machines, advanced embroidery machines etc. In
Rishi fabrics industry, students learnt the process of knitting (Flat bed
knitting and circular knitting machines ), weaving and manufacturing process of
garments. After the visit the students assembled in the conference room had
refreshment. It was a healthy discussion session. Mr. Nitin Sharma also shared
his views regarding the wider scope of this vocational course and appreciated
the interest shown by the students. It was fully informative visit for the
students.
Faculty Development
Programme
Under
the able guidance of our worthy Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Prashar, faculty
development programme was conducted by Home science & Fashion Designing
Department to make aware the home maker various health tips, beauty tips,
interior decoration tops & textiles enhancement skill etc. Dr (Mrs.)
Khushwinder Gill demonstrated the “Stain removal techniques” with power point
presentation. Mr. Etti Aggarwal gave some useful tips of “Food preservation”
and Mrs. Ruchi Sharma enrich the faculty members to “Decorate their homes by
utilizing best out of waste” and Monica Gautam demonstrated “How to prepare
healthy beverages”. It was a very fruitful programme.
In House Training
Department of Fashion Designing conducted a Training Programme for the students
pursuing B. Voc (Textile & Fashion Technology) from 16th - 28th
Dec, 2016 in the campus. This training programme included learning in various
areas like Printing methods, Tie and Dye Techniques, Phulkari Embroidery,
Surface Embellishments, Bag Making (Quilting), Dresses from Jute etc. This
training provides vast in depth, hand on100 % practical experience on various
latest techniques related to Clothing & Textiles.
Celebration Of Maat
–Pita Santaan Divas
The most important relation of one
being, if it is with anybody is with his / her parents. The cause of one’s
existence in this world is due to their parents only.
Since the years, Dev Samaj celebrates 16
important relations (our relation with
the physical world, the animal world, plant world etc.) so amongst these
one of the most important relation of
every student with her parents was celebrated as “MAAT – PITA SANTAAN DIVAS” in
the department of Home Science and fashion designing on 19th Jan ,2017. Madam Principal,
the one force regularly guides every
student about the value of our parents.
Head of the Department, Dr.
Vandana Gupta introduced the Importance of celebrating the same day by
sharing her own views and experiences. All the Department faculty members also
shared their views about their parents.
Students of BA 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd
Year Home Science and Fashion Designing, Community course (Fashion Designing),
B. Voc. (Textile & Fashion Technology) participated with enthusiasm in
celebrating the occasion. This time, poster making competition was organized by
the Department to celebrate the very
important day .Students draw out wonderful pictures depicting the respect and
value they have for their parents. Madam Principal was very happy on seeing the
creative art of the students .She judged the posters and students bagged 1st,
2nd, and 3rd positions.
Students shared their valuable views that how they have always observed
their parents sacrificing for them and fulfilling their needs. Students
expressed their views in the form of poems, songs and gazals. They also shared
that what is the difference in relation between Indian children with their
parents and foreign children. Hostler
students got emotional while sharing their views that now they have come to know the importance of
their parents and how they feel the lack of their parent’s love. One married
student, who herself is the mother of two children, shared that one understands
the real feeling of parents love and sacrifice only after themselves becoming
parents. She also gave a message that girls should consider their in-laws as
their own parents. All the speakers realized
that it is only their parents who sacrifice for them the most, and accept them
if they have committed the mistake.
At last , all the faculty members
shared their views and concluded by saying
the students that they all must respect and thanks their parents as it
is the only real wealth that we can return to them . We will always be indebted
to them for everything.
Celebration of Voter’s Day- Rangoli & Poster Making
Rangoli and Poster making competition was
organized by the Home Science & Fashion Designing Department to celebrate
voter’s day on 23rd – 24th Jan, 2017. The purpose of the
occasion was to bring awareness among students about the right of vote. About
25 students of the college brought out extremely beautiful floral patterns on
the floor and presented their posters. Judges for the event was Our Worthy Principal
Madam, Dr Mrs Madhu Prashar and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur city.
All the students did their best creativity. This activity was an effort to
motivate each and every person in one way or the other.
Participation
in Bridal show
B.Voc and
Community Fashion Designing Students participated in Bridal show organized by PG Department
of Cosmetology & Health Care. Students walked on the ramps by wearing dresses
designed and prepared by the Fashion Designing Students and Makeup provided by
the students of Cosmetology department. It was good exposure for the students.
One week (14th -20th Feb,
2017) Career Counseling Campaign was organized by Fashion Designing
Department. A team of six teachers from
the college on the advice of respective Principal Mam Dr. (Mrs). Madhu Prashar
and Dean College Affairs and Development Er. Prateek Prashar visited following
districts- such as Moga, Faridkot, Ferozepur, and Amritsar.

showed interest to join these B.Voc degree programmes after 10+2.

Industrial visit to SS Knitwear’s Ludhiana
Industrial visit to SS Knitwear’s Ludhiana was organized by Fashion
Designing Department on 14th March 2016. Thirty three students along
with two faculty members visited the industry. The purpose of visit was to acquaint
the students about working of industrial machines including circular knitting
machine, air jet machine etc. Students learnt in detail about finishing and production
processes. The production head of the industry, shared his views regarding the wider scope of this
vocational courses and appreciated the interest shown by the students.
Fashion Show- ASTITVA 2017
A
very elaborate and dazzling Runway Fashion show “Astitva – 2017 ” was organised
by the students and faculty of Fashion Designing Department, choreographed by Mr. Ishu
Joshi (Saroz Khan Academy Chandigarh), staged at DSCW on 18th
march , 2017 . Here, around 50 students walked on the ramp in breathtaking
lovely theme based outfits designed by the students of B.Voc and Community
Fashion Designing. The judges were hard pressed to reach a decision as almost
all the performances were par excellence. Some prizes had therefore, to be
bracketed. Best and unique dress model received the loudest applause from the
audience. Star attraction of the day was marvellous comedian “Guthi”. She gave
her live performance based on fashion show theme. Our worthy Principal Dr. (Mrs)
Madhu Prasher thanked the Foreign Dignitaries
, Judges , delegates and audience. The show was the great success and
was the talk of the day.
Interversity Youth Festival
Students of Fashion Designing department
of DSCW have brought laurels for the institution by bagging top positions in
Interversity youth and heritage festival competition held at Panjab University
Chandigarh on 27th March , 2017. Paramjeet Kaur of B.Voc (Textile & Fashion
Technology) secured the 1st position in ‘Pakhi making’ and Amandeep
kaur also bagged 1st position in ‘crochet making’ competition . Principal
Dr.(Mrs.) Madhu Prashar of DSCW said it was the result of hard work and
sincerity of students, their parents and teachers . Dean, College Development Er.
Prateek Prasher also congratulated the students and encouraged them to remain focused.
He said the hard work put in by students had stood them in good stead and top
positions bagged by them had made the institution proud.
One Day UGC
Sponsored - National Seminar
The department of Home Science in collaboration with
department of History and P.G department of Cosmetology and Healthcare
commenced a one day UGC sponsored
national seminar on the topic ‘Art And Beauty :From Tradition To
Modernity on 1st April, 2017. As many as 30 participants from
different institutions attended the seminar. The participants were from diverse
disciplines such as Home Science, Fashion Designing, History, Biochemistry
Cosmetology and Healthcare and many more. Dr Pooja Prashar, organizer and Head
History Department, introduced the theme and modalities of the seminar. She
reiterated the fact that “the basic purpose of the event is to provide the
platform for young critical minds to engage themselves with the serious issues
concerning the society. This seminar will certainly facilitate them to learn
the techniques and methodologies to understand their society in a better way.
Dr (Mrs.) Madhu Prashar , Principal DSCW , congratulated the departments for taking this initiative and
highlighted the importance of equipping young minds with different aspects of
art and beauty , Er. Prateek Prashar , Dean College Development , proposed a
vote of thanks .
