Celebration of National Nutrition Month

Poster and Slogan Competition

 

Under the patronage of Chairman Nirmal Singh Ji Dhillon and Principal Dr Ramnita Sharda, the Department of Home science and Nutrition and Dietetics celebrated National Nutrition month by organising poster and slogan writing competition on 24th and 25th September 2021. The theme of National Nutrition Month was “converging towards on healthy walk-through life”. Almost 35 students participated in this competition. Dr Vandana Gupta, Dr Manisha and Mr Sandeep from Fine Arts Department evaluated the posters and slogans. The students of Department of Nutrition and Dietetics delivered presentation to create awareness of good nutrition. Principal Madam appreciated the students work and motivated them to participate in such type of activities and she also addressed the students to spread this message among the masses.

Two days Workshop on Advance Illustration Techniques and Creativity

The Postgraduate Department of Fashion Designing under the patronage of honourable Chairman Shri Nirmal Singh Ji Dhillon and Principal Dr. Sangeeta was organised a Two days workshop on Advance Illustration techniques and creativity on 11th -  12th  November 2021 at 11:30 am. The purpose of this workshop was to enhance the creativity of Fashion illustration among students, to render different types fabrics on different drapes and also to visualize the ideas and concepts of the design into Practice. The resource person for this workshop was Ms. Rohini Sahi, Fashion stylist and Free-lance Makeup artist, New Delhi. Approximately 40 students pursuing Bachleor and Master’s degree from Fashion designing department participated in this workshop. Students learnt and revised the techniques of drawing free hand fashion croquis (different poses), tools and mediums used in fashion illustration, learnt Step by step process of creating complete fashion Illustrations. In addition to this Madam demonstrated to the students, how to colour fashion illustration to add 3D dimension and realistic depth and finally to render different types fabrics on different drapes. First day Resource person gave demonstrations to the students and second day, students practice these techniques of fashion illustration at their own and prepared different dresses. Beyond this, Ms Rohini gave the lecture on personal grooming and shared their experiences about makeups and grooming of fashion models so that students get awared about the concept that fashion  and makeup goes hand in hand. The workshop successfully harnessed the enthusiasm and experience of participants. Fashion Designing students also learnt about the proper uses of tools and techniques of free hand illustration. Hence, this fashion illustration workshop was very useful for the budding designers.

Celebration of Anniversary Bhagwan Dev Atma Ji

Poster and Slogan Making Competition

 

On the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Dev Atma Ji, founder of Dev Samaj, the Department of Home Science in collaboration with Department of Fashion Designing and Department of Nutrition and Dietetitics organized a poster and slogan making competition to showcase the life and teachings of Bhagwan Dev Atma Ji, under the patronage of the Honourable Chairman, Shri Nirmal Singh Ji, and Principal Dr. Sangeeta on November 24th, 2021.

      In this competition, students from various departments prepared various posters and slogans to depict the life and teachings of Bhagwan Dev Atma Ji. The posters and slogans were displayed in the Department of Home Science. Around 50 students were participated in this competition. The results were announced by the judges, Dr. Vandana Gupta (Skill Head Faculty Incharge) and Mr. Sandeep, (Department of Fine Arts) after evaluation of the posters and slogans.                    On this occasion, our worthy Principal, Dr. Sangeeta, monitored and evaluated all the posters and slogans, as well as the appreciated efforts of the students regarding their posters and slogans, and motivated them for the future.

Zonal Youth Festival Competition, Talwandi

With an aim to create an environment where in teachers become facilitator in shaping and harnessing the creative potential, innovative ideas, and critical ability of the students the Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur has always walked an extra mile and pushed the students out of their comfort zones to achieve their aspiration and goals. The process has brought fruitful results in the co-curricular performance of the students. Our students made us proud by begging top-most positions and number of prizes in the Zonal Youth Festival competition was organized by Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College & Collegiate Sen. Sec. Workshop on Food Crest frosting cakes

 

Cake is a type of sweet food that is typically baked, made from flour, sugar, and other ingredients. Cakes were modifications of bread in their earliest types, but now cakes cover a wide variety of preparations that can be basic or complex, and that share characteristics with other sweets such as pastries, meringues, custards, and pies. The Department of Home Science in collaboration with Department of Nutrition & Dietetics organized one Day Skill Building Workshop on Food Crest frosting cakes on 6th December 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The main objective of this workshop was To prepare the students for baking & frosting Professionals through hands on experience and to enhance the creativity skills.  Ms Prishita Jain (Entrepreneur), Baking Specialist, Faridkot was resource person for skill building workshop. She demonstrated the techniques of icing with help of different shapes and sizes of nozzles on the cake. She has also shared some useful tips for preparing whipped creams for icing the cake. The resource person also discussed Do’s and Don’ts while baking food items and decorated the cake. Dr Sangeeta Officiating Principal Madam graced the event with her presence and motivated the participants to engage more and more in such kinds of workshops. Around 50 students were participated in this workshop. It was a very fruitful workshop. This workshop has helped the students to explore new facts about baking techniques and to become self entrepreneurs.

Skill Building Workshop on Handmade Chocolate Bars & Healthy Probiotics Fermented Drink for Adolescent Girls

 

To boost the Immunity and to promote good health on International Women’s’ Day, the Department of Home Science and Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, DSCW Under the Patronage of Hon’ble Shriman Nirmal Singh Ji Dhillon, Chairman & Dr. Sangeeta, Officiating Principal is organising a Skill Building Workshop on   Handmade Chocolate Bars & Healthy Probiotic drinks for young girls on 8th march 2022 at 12:00 pm. The aim of the Workshop is to empower the young girls through Skill development training for maintaining healthy life style. Around 100 students from science Department participated in this workshop. Dr Vandana (Head, Dept. Of H.sc) demonstrated and explained the process of making Beet root kwaas. Dr Manisha Pandit (Head, Deptt. of Nutrition & Dietetics) demonstrated and explained the process of chocolate making. She explained how to make chocolates with coco powder, milk powder, coconut oil and coffee. Mrs Ekta Uppal (CJM) Ferozepur was the chief guest and she appreciated the initiative of this type of workshop. Madam Principal Dr Sangeeta Sharma motivated the students to attend this type of workshop. She also congratulated the department for organising this skill building workshop.

Industrial Visit at Sobhagia Sales Pvt. Ltd (Classic Wears), Ludhiana

The PG Department of Fashion Designing, DSCW had organised a visit to Sobhagya Sales, Pvt Ltd (Classic wears), Ludhiana on 6th April, 2022 for the students of B.Voc Textile and Fashion Technology. The main objective behind the visit was to provide hands on experience and deep understanding of industrial structure. As soon as the students reached, there, students were divided in two groups and were send to explore the different sections of the garment industry. They were guided by Er, Lovely, HR Head of industry, who briefed the students about the various steps involved in the manufacturing of garments, starting from the grey fabric. The Sobhagya Sales, Pvt Ltd deals with all types of cotton and wool fabrics and is mainly involved in production of  children apparel.

The students were introduced to various sections related to garment industry like:

1). Store section- All the fabric have been stored and maintained through quality control measures.

2). Embroidery section- The automated embroidery and quilting machines were working as per the standard designs given to them through the software.

3). Pattern making & Drafting section- Work was divided into sections and both methods manually as well as computerized were followed. For manual, the pattern master constructs the patterns where as for the computerized through software CAD was used to construct the pattern.

4). Cutting section- In this section all the paper drafting are being traced on the fabric and then cut through the cutting machine, which cut the number of fabric layers at a time.

5). Stitching & Finishing section- Under this all the elements of the garments were stitched and finished according to the given design. The fasteners section of the industry had variety of laces and braids which they use in garment embellishments.

It was a beneficial visit for the students as they interacted with the workers and gained practical knowledge about garment production right from the fabric to finished product.

All the students have enjoyed and fully satisfied with this visit . Industry representatives motivated to the students by giving token of affection in the form of refreshments.

COMPETITION ON FRUIT PLATING IDEAS

Everybody is probably aware about the famous quote that “Happiness begins with Good Health”. To promote good health on World Health Day, The Department of Home Science and Nutrition and Dietetics under the patronage of Honourable Chairman, Shriman Nirman Singh Ji Dhillon and Dr Sangeeta Officiating Principal, DSCW was organized a competition on Fruit Plating Ideas (Under the IQAC) on 7th April, 2022. Under the World Health day the theme for this competition was “Our Planet Our Health”. Dr Vandana, Head Department of Home Science welcome the honorable Principal Ma’am and she discussed some healthy steps to lead healthy life and some of the important lifestyles adopted by the adolescent girls to stay active in future. Under this competition 8 groups were participated of different streams. Students had prepared various kinds of fruit plating. Dr Khushwinder Gill, Mrs. Shivangi and Mrs. Chanderika were the judges for evaluated the best fruit plating ideas on the basis of three parameters i.e. Presentation, cutting method and selection of fruits. Our worthy Principal Ma’am appreciated the efforts of the students who designed and presented the plate very well and motivated them to participate in such type of activities.

FOOD FIESTA OF INDIAN CUISINES

 

            To celebrate the diversity as well as the unity of the nation and to showcase the rich Heritage and Culture of different states with a special thrust on Andhra Pradesh - the pairing state of Punjab - the Department of Home Science in collaboration with the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized “Food Fiesta of Indian Cuisines” (under the Scheme of Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat) on 7th April 2022 at 10:30 am in the Food and Nutrition lab. The main aim of this event was to make youth familiar with the various cuisines of different states, especially Andhra Pradesh, during the festival days in the month of April. In this event, students had prepared various food platters from different states such as Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharastra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab etc. Around 13 groups (comprising of two students in each group) participated in this competition with full enthusiasm; students had prepared different healthy and nutritious smoothies, snacks with chuttinies, Appam, sweet dishes like nutty laddoo, coconut laddoo, sabudana kheer, makhana kheer, ice cream. Students had also designed different menu cards according to their state's theme in which they had included ingredients and methods of their recipes.

On the same day, Harpreet, a student of B.Voc Nutrition and Dietetics IInd Year delivered her speech on the topic of “Awareness of Healthy Diet” on the World Health Day with the theme “Our Planet, Our Health”. Dr Vandana Gupta (Head Department of Home Science) welcomed the chief guest Dr Sangeeta, Officiating Principal Madam and Mrs Sapna Badhwar, Nodal Officer In-charge of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat (P.G. Department of English). Students had prepared their food platters including snacks, beverages and sweet dishes along with their menu cards. The chief guest and judges from the Department of Home Science monitored and evaluated the food platters of the contestants. The judges evaluated the best food platter and beverages according to some parameters of the competition i.e presentation, variation of ingredients, taste and overall acceptability. Principal Madam and Nodal In-charge appreciated the efforts of the students and motivated them to participate in such types of activities in the future as well. At last Dr Manisha Pandit (Department of Nutrition) delivered the vote of thanks to the chief guest, teachers and students for the successful completion of this event.

Workshop on Art and craft

 

Textile printing and painting is a traditional form of fabric design.  Two days workshop on “Art and Craft” was organized by Department of Fashion Designing on 11-12th April 2022. The resource person for this workshop was Ms. Yukti, Instructor, Fevicryl. More than 30 students of B.Voc (Textile and Fashion Technology) and Community Diploma(Fashion Designing and Clothing Construction)attended this workshop. This workshop was planned with an aim to develop and enhance skills towards different art, accessory designing, free hand painting and texture.

In this workshop students learnt the lippan Art, Jewellary designing and two stroke brush painting. Lippan art is used to embellish the interior and exterior walls of of the house. In this workshop, Students use canvas for lippan art and prepared beautiful designs. For accessory designing, students prepared jewellery sets using mouldit kits, waste flowers etc. Resource person also demonstrated the free hand two stroke painting techniques on fabric.

The students were given practical knowledge of the application of fabric colors and their uses. The session was very informative and the students learnt the techniques and practiced the same on the material which they had brought. Students enjoyed this workshop and was beneficial for updating their practical knowledge.

7 Day Campaign on Aahar Paramarsh Abhiyan

The Department of Nutrition Dietetics was organized a 7 day  nutrition counselling campaign entitled with the topic “Aahar Paramarsh Abhiyan”  from 7th -14th April, 2022 in college campus to aware the  students about different health issues. The aim of this camp was not just to provide health checkups but to create an environment where the students are aware about health issues. On the opening day of camp the honourable principal of the college inaugurated the camp by giving her humble words on the healthy lifestyle and also present her views about the ongoing health issues. She also appreciated the efforts of initiated such kind of camp for the students and teachers to aware them about the health and healthy food. The camp typically include counselling, screening for health that involve weight checking, BMI calculation, Blood pressure measurement, speech and displaying of posters, leaflets and charts along with models .The main goal of this camp was to ensure that students are healthy, enthusiastic and ready to learn  and help them to educate how to become healthier by having healthy lifestyle. In this camp education was imparted to students and teachers of other disciplines through different ways like by using posters, leaflets and charts related to different diseases. The posters and models that were prepared by the departmental students for the depiction of different functions of body were also displayed which make the camp more interesting. Different models related to obesity and underweight like – food pyramid, my plate were displayed to highlight the significance of food in one’s life. In each day student had displayed various models, charts and delivered message about the various diseases and their consequences among students. The last day of the camp, a special food feast was organized where different food items were cooked and served and sold .  A nutrition enriched dishes such as Foxnut kheer ice-cream (made with low fat milk/ skim milk), Nutty jaggery ladoo ( nuts include – almonds, pumpkin seed,raisin), Healthy vanilla cake (made with atta ) and Oats banana smoothie (with added honey instead of sugar) were made which can be consumed by every age group people and not only that these dishes were made by giving preference to the ingredients that can be used to heal particular diseases. The recipes prepared were selling to the teachers and student in the campus for minimal charges. At the end of this session students of Nutrition and Dietetics prescribed some of the diet charts needed to the students and teachers that want to improve the function of their digestive system. This whole camp proves not only to be informative but also loaded with fun and it was ended at note of satisfaction that students and teachers gain much knowledge about living healthy life with healthy lifestyle.

                       This camp ended with the slogan of –

        “Being healthy and fit isn’t a Fad or trend, it’s a lifestyle”

Workshop on Draping fashion and fabric manipulations

 

Under the able guidance of our worthy Principal Madam, Dr Sangeeta, the Department of Fashion  Designing organized a “Workshop on Draping Fashion and Fabric Manipulations”  on 13th April, 2022 for the Students of B.Voc Textile and Fashion Technology and M.Sc Fashion Designing. The resource person for this workshop was. Ms Tammana Chowdhry, Vocational Teacher. Around 30 studens participated in this workshop. Basic and advance Draping is the part of curriculum, therefore this workshop was planned to enhance the draping skills of students.

First of all, Madam Tamanna told about the, selection and preparation of cloth for draping, requirement of material, ways of cutting and pinning the fabric with proper style and construction lines. She also guided about the recognition, evaluation, and execution of diverse draping styles. She also demonstrated techniques to improve fitting and to interpret and execute specific silhouettes, styles and market trends.

After demonstration, students draped different styles of dresses. Some students added contemporary look to their draping style dresses. The workshop was enriching for the students and it ended with an interactive session between the resource person and the students and faculty present.




 

Hospital Visit to Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar

A one-day hospital visit was organized for B. Voc Nutrition and Dietetics students to the well-established health sector unit “Amandeep Hospital”, Amritsar on 22nd Feb 2021. The industrial visit was organized by Dr. Vandana Gupta, Dr. Manisha Pandit faculty members of Department of Home Science (Nutrition and Dietetics), DSCW, Ferozepur. Amandeep Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital in Amritsar with branches located in Pathankot & Jammu, offering quality healthcare services in many areas. Their team of highly acclaimed specialists has received prestigious awards and honors. They provide a wide range of treatment options, including some of the most advanced techniques in surgery and rehabilitation, to deliver top-notch results for patients. Dr. Amandeep Kaur and Dr. Avtar Singh established Amandeep Hospital and at that time it was a 5-bedded speciality centre for Orthopaedics and Trauma management. Rendering relentless efforts in providing the best clinical care to the patients, Amandeep Hospital evolved into a 500-bedded multispeciality hospital in Punjab, India.

Dt. Harjinder Kaur, Senior Dietician delivered a presentation on the topic “FUNCTIONAL FOODS”. She explained that Functional foods are foods that offer health benefits beyond their nutritional value. In addition to nutrient-rich ingredients like fruits and veggies, the category also includes foods fortified with vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and fiber.  Nutraceuticals may be used to improve health, delay the aging process, prevent chronic diseases, increase life expectancy, or support the structure or function of the body. The presentation was very informative and beneficial to the students.  She has satisfied all the queries of the students. Dr.Ridhima and her co-staff help and guide the students to visit various sections of the hospital. There were total 6 floors. Students had visited department of laboratory, X-ray room and console room. Each floor has its separate nursing station. At first they went to the ground floor where students saw the OPD where every patient gets their individual id mentioned with their slip. Next there are proceeded for different departments according to their disease or disease history. In Ground floor also has one pharmacy and different labs where all kind of samples are monitored and reports are made accordingly with supervision of the technicians. There is one different section for MRI and CT scan where we got to know that any kind of misfunctioning which is not reported in blood sampling or other reports then the patient has to go through MRI and CT Scans. The staffs of the hospital unit were very cooperative and visit was found to be very knowledgeable and resourceful for the students.  Students had learnt the unique way of this hospital how it is so different to all other hospitals in that localty. Smile tran was the concept and which served free of cost for those who have any misformation from birth. It was such a great exposure and a programatic learning experience for the students.

DRUG AWARENESS

To create awareness amongst youth under the able guidance of Dr Sangeeta , officiating Principal, DSCW Ferozepur. The Department of Home science and Nutrition and Dietetics and Fashion designing organizing drug awareness activity in each month of the session. This camp helps them to students to explore and create awareness about drug addiction and its Side effects.  Drug addiction is a problem that very prevalent in our society.

A lecturer on "say no to drugs" was organized on 22nd March 2022 by the Department of Home science and Nutrition and Dietetics senior buddy Dr Vandana Gupta and Dr Manisha Pandit explained the various reasons that why people consume drugs drugs and also discussed the consequences of drugs on personal and social life. Two students Pinanshu and Suman of B. A. 2nd Year explain the negative effects on the drugs. Some students of nutrition department also delivered their opinion on drugs related topics. The lecture was for the followed by the queries and discussion of students. Dr Khushwinder Gill, Department of Fashion Designing discussed with the students regarding the problem of drugs addicted by the young generation. “DON'T LET YOUR LIFE GO UP IN SMOKE”

 

Drug addiction is a problem that is faced by several people in our own society and is prevalent throughout the young generation now -a-days. To create awareness among youth to identify the root cause of drug addiction, under the able guidance of Dr. Sangeeta, officiating Principal, DSCW Ferozepur, a lecture on " DON'T LET YOUR LIFE GO UP IN SMOKE '' was organized on 25th April 2022 by the Department of Home Science in collaboration with Deptt. of Nutrition and Dietetics and Fashion Designing.  Our senior buddy members Dr.Vandana Gupta and Dr. Manisha Pandit explained various reasons why people consume drugs and also discussed the consequences of drugs on personal and social life. Two students from B.voc NAD III year Arshdeep and Anudeep explained the negative impacts of drugs on communication among the young generation. Gurleen Kaur from B. A final year and Pawanpreet Kaur M.Sc FD Ist  year also expressed their  opinion about smoking effects. Students also prepared various charts on Drug Awareness. The lecture was followed by various queries. Dr. Khushwinder Gill, Senior buddy member satisfied the queries of the student.

“DRUG AWARENESS”

 

To create awareness among youth to identify the root cause of drug addiction, under the able guidance of Dr. Sangeeta, officiating Principal, DSCW Ferozepur, a lecture on " When Given a choice, Choose Life Over Drugs'' was organized on 24th May 2022 by the Department of Home Science in collaboration with Deptt. of Nutrition and Dietetics and Fashion Designing. Drug addiction is a problem that is faced by several people in our own society and is prevalent throughout the young generation now-a-days. One of the student, Simranjeet Kaur from B.voc NAD Ist year delivered lecture on “Nasha nash ki jadd hai bhai, isne desh mai aag lagaayi” Dr Khushwinder Kaur, one of senior buddy group explained the negative impacts of drugs on communication among the young generation. Our senior buddy members Dr.Vandana Gupta and Dr. Manisha Pandit explained various reasons why people consume drugs and also discussed the impacts of drugs on personal and social life.  Anjali from B. Voc TFT first year delivered their presentation on the topic “Say No To Drugs” and Harjeet Kaur B.Voc TFT IInd year also expressed their opinion about weeds effects. Students of different streams have also prepared various charts and slogans on “SAY NO TO DRUGS” Chanderika and Mrs. Shivangi, buddy members satisfied the queries of the students.

Industrial Visit at Swadeshi Textile Pvt. Ltd. Amritsar

 

The Post Graduate Department of Fashion Designing of Dev Samaj College for Women organized an Industrial visit to Swadeshi Textiles pvt ltd, Amritsar for the B.Voc Textile and Fashion Technologyc students on . 4th May, 2022.

Swadeshi Textiles pvt ltd,   is a fully composite unit and advantages of being a composite unit within house Spinning, Knitting and Finishing. The company is fully equipped with all necessary machineries used for manufacturing and finishing of the garments. The company is using all sort of fabric which is required by the international buyers all over the world. This industry proved very strong for knitting and value added garments of cotton, viscose, polyester, yarn dyed , Specially Wool blends i.e. wool Nylon, polyester ,Acrylic Nylon etc.

The Industry Manager interacted with the  students and explained the complete work flow of unit. They showed different sections in the industry such as spinning, computerized flat knitting, cutting , stitching, printing, washing section , pressing and finishing and ultimately packaging section, where the students got the exposure of working of various manual and automatic processes in an knitting unit. They explained the hierarchy of working employees and also explained to the students regarding job opportunities in the textile industries after completion of their degree.

After that,  Head Sir answered the various queries of the students in a very effective manner. This industrial visit proves very knowledgeful and resourceful for the students.







Workshop on Kalamkari-the folk paintings of Andhra Pradesh under EBSB

 Under the able guidance of our worthy Principal Madam, Dr Sangeeta,  the Post Graduate Department of Fashion Designing organized one day workshop on Kalamkari- the folk paintings of Andhra Pradesh under the banner of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat, the initiative of Government of India on 21st May 2022. As part of the initiative, we celebrate the unity in diversity of our nation to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds among the people of different states of our country. By organizing this activity DSCW, Fzr. made an effort to promote the spirit of national integration and rich heritage and culture of Andhra Pradesh.

Kalamkari originates from the Persian words qalam (pen) and kari (craftmanship). Around thirty students of various streams of the college participated in this workshop. Dr Khushwinder Kaur Gill, Head Deptt of Fashion Designing and Mrs.Chanderika, Assistant Professor, Department of Fashion Designing demonstrated the art of tracing and painting techniques of kalamkari designs on Canvas and ivory sheets. Every student prepared a unique kalamkari design.  In this workshop, students learnt about the various motifs, colors and techniques to be used in the kalamkari paintings.

Madam Principal, Dr Sangeeta congratulated the faculty members for having organized such a unique workshop for the students of this border belt of Ferozepur. She appreciated the students also for showing interest in learning something new. Dr (Mrs.) Vandana, Faculty Head of Skilled courses and Mrs. Kanika, Head, Department of Cosmetology and Health Care, lauded the efforts of Department as well as students. Mrs. Sapna, Nodal Officer, EK Bharat Shrestha Bharat, DSCW shared her views regarding the rich cultural heritage and values of Andhra Pradesh. In the end, Mrs. Shivangi, Assistant Professor, Department of Fashion Designing, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was a successful one. After completion of this workshop students felt motivated to know more about the cultural richness of various states of India.
