RANGOLI   MAKING COMPETITION

 

To celebrate and commemorate 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava on the theme ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, the Department of Home Science under the patronage of Honourable Chairman Shriman Nirmal Singh Ji Dhillon & Dr. Sangeeta, Officiating Principal, organized a ‘Rangoli Making Competition’ on 11th August, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. The event encouraged all the participants to rediscover their hidden strengths and prompted to take sincere, synergistic action to regain a rightful place in the comity of nation.

OF

WORKSHOP ON ACCESSORY DESIGNING

Department of Fashion Designing organised a workshop on Accessory Designing on , 1st September 2022. The main objective of this skilled workshop is to enhance the creative and designing skills of the students. Ms Chanderika Khanna, Assistant Professor, department of Fashion Designing told about the material requirement for preparing accessories. She also demonstrated the technique of preparing jewellery articles from waste material like beads, flowers etc. During the workshop, students got the opportunity to learn all the phases of fashion jewellery making using shilpkar, beads, Hook, Findings, Gem Stones. Madam demonstrated the various techniques and students under the Incubation Cell / ED cell of DSCW  prepared the beautiful pieces like necklace, Rings, Pendants, Bangles and earrings etc according to their interest. In practical sessions, students were involved with the planning and practice of techniques, types, size and colour combination of the beads as well as beading designs. The students participated enthusiastically in the workshop and it was a informative and creative workshop which imbibe technical skills and knowledge amongst the students.

WORKSHOP   ON MILLETS-NUTRI CEREALS

 NUTRITION WEEK CELEBRATION

 

To celebrate Nutrition week   on the theme ‘Celebrate a World of Flavour’, the Department of Home Science and Nutrition and Dietetics   under the patronage of Honourable Chairman Shriman Nirmal Singh Ji Dhillon & Dr. Sangeeta, Officiating Principal, organized a workshop on ‘Millets-Nutri cereals ’ on 7th September, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.

The theme signifies the key role of nutrition in building the resilience from pandemic   to endemic paradigm.

The purpose of the workshop is to aware the students of important signs of their well-being and prosperity. Student can also learn about their nutritional habits from which they can acquire good   nutrient









Report of Exhibition cum sale
of Eco friendly and Hand-made innovative articles

Under the able guidance of our respected Principal Madam, Dr Sangeeta, Dev Samaj College for women, Ferozepur. The Post graduate Department of Fashion Designing in collaboration with Zoological society of Post Graduate Department of Zoology celebrated the World Ozone Day on 16th  Sept, 2022 under the banner of Swachh Amrit Mahotsav. The coordinators of the event were Dr Khushwinder Kaur Gill, Head, Deptt of Fashion Designing and Dr Mokshi, Head Deptt of Zoology. An exhibition cum sale of eco-friendly and Hand-made innovative articles was organised under Incubation Cell/ ED, DSCW, in which students displayed their art of creating eco eco-friendly items such as jute bags, hand-made jewellary, dupattas paper bags etc. Students under the Incubation cell/ ED Cell sold the handmade articles and earned handsome profit.

Posters on ozone depletion and its causes were displayed by the students. The purpose of this event was to create awareness among the youth to save ozone by replacing synthetics things by eco friendly articles for daily use. Our Respected, Principal Madam appreciated the efforts of students. Students from the graduate and post graduate classes participated with full zeal and enthusiasm. Various items were bought by faculty members and students. They all praised the efforts done by students.

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ON METHODS OF COOKING

 

To enhance the PowerPoint skills of students the Department of Home Science, organised PowerPoint presentation on methods of cooking on 3rd and 4th October for the students of BA, 2nd year. Tanveer  Kaur  ,BA 2nd year ,roll no 1063 and Pinanshu,  BA 3rd year ,roll no 1075 made PowerPoint presentation on methods of cooking. Dr Vandana, Head of Department of Home Science   guided them how to make slides. Tanveer made PowerPoint presentation on topic cooking by moist and dry heat and presented it in very creative way, whereas Pinanshu   made presentation on cooking by baking and also presented it.In this way students learnt this technique for presenting their assignment.

With an aim to create an environment where in teachers become facilitator in shaping and harnessing the creative potential, innovative ideas, and critical ability of the students the Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur has always walked an extra mile and pushed the students out of their comfort zones to achieve their aspiration and goals. The process has brought fruitful results in the co-curricular performance of the students. Our students made us proud by begging top-most positions and number of prizes in the Zonal Youth Festival competition was organized in Dev Samaj college for women from 18th  to 20th October ,2022   under the theme of EK BHARAT- SHRESTHA BHARAT  .  Students of different streams won different prizes in various events such as:

EXHIBITION CUM SALE OF INNOVFATIVE HANDMADE ARTICLES (ZONAL YOUTH HERITAGE FESTIVAL)

Department of Home Science & Fashion Designing organized a revenue – generation an “Exhibition cum sale” on the event of Zonal Youth Heritage Festival on 18th – 20th October 2022 under the theme of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat. Students of Incubation Cell/ ED Cell, Fashion Designing Department, DSCW set up sale counter in the campus ground to sell their innovative hand made products such as Dresses (Dyed and embroided), Handbags, Pouches, Utility bags, wall hangings, gift boxes, decorated diyas and pots, Accessories (Jewellary, belts, scrunchies etc.) & other household decorative and utility items. Each student prepared a beautiful hand made products by using their imagination and creativity and depicted their patriotic thoughts in the most appealing manner. On this occasion, To the amaze of the dept within 3days of the opening of the stall, these all products sold and earned handsome profit. This was an activity that students enjoyed and also learnt the art of selling meeting deadlines. The guest of the day Mr. Ranbeer Singh Bhuller (MLA, Ferozepur city) and Mrs. Sangeeta, Officiating Principal Madam, DSCW appreciated the work done and exhibited by the students. This revenue generation campaign turned out to be highly enriching, enthralling and exciting experience for all the students.

OF

WORKSHOP ON TIE AND DYE TECHNIQUES

Department of Fashion Designing organised a skilled workshop on Tie and Dye Techniques on 3rd Nov, 2022. The main objective of this skilled workshop is to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the students. Ms Chanderika Khanna, Assistant Professor, department of Fashion Designing demonstrated the technique and involved the students in an immersive hands-on activity session. Students  were taught about - selection of fabric for tie and dye, raw materials required for tie and dye, preparation of fabric for tie and Availability of raw material. She also taught them various designs using cardboards, sticks, rice, pulses, threads, bottle and so on. Each participant made 15 samples by using different techniques. Dye solution was prepared and all samples were dyed using single and double colour techniques. Finally Dyed samples were dried and opened and fantastic design was obtained. The students under the DSCW Incubation Cell were able to create beautiful effects on a cotton cloth, dupattas, bed sheets etc and made vibrant patterns using the tie and dye technique. Students exhibited the articles prepared by using tie and dye Techniques. It was a skill-oriented workshop and students actively participated in this workshop. They thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and were able to express their creativity through the myriad hues of colour.

Industrial visit to OCM Amritsar

Department of Fashion Designing organised an industrial visit to OCM Amritsar on 17th Nov, 2022 for the students of B.Voc Textile and Fashion Technology and M.Sc. Fashion Designing. Twenty-five students along with two faculty members visited the industry. By industrial visit students learn about textile factories, production cycle, and the role of textile workers. The aim of this visit was to develop a practical understanding of core elements & processes involved in fabric manufacturing unit that are- spinning, weaving, knitting, and the machineries used for different processes.

Along with this, students got to know about the process of designing different types of worsted fabrics according to consumer needs thoroughly by one of the designers of OCM. She also showed their catalogues of worsted fabrics of different designs, colours and yarn count to the students, which they show to their customers for selection of fabric. The production head of the industry also share his views regarding the wider scope of vocational stream of fashion designing and highly appreciated the interest shown by the students.

FOUNDER DAY CELEBRATION

 

The Holy soul BHAGWAN DEVATMA JI’S BIRTH ANNIVERSARY was celebrated by Home Science, Nutrition & Dietetics and Fashion Designing Department on 23rd Nov ,2022.Quiz competition was organised in the department. There were three teams for quiz, Team A (Muskan, Simran , Raziya),Team B (Khusi, Rajwant Kaur, Saneha) and Team C (Satinder Kaur, Heaven, Raman).Around 30 students participated in quiz competition. All the students performed very well in competition. Team B was the winner.1st  ,2nd and 3rd prizes were given to the students. Through this competition the students made aware about the precious teachings of BHAGWAN DEVATMA JI and motivated them to practiced these in their life. He was a great Indian spiritual leader who believed in harmony and meditation in the name of divine soul. BHAGWAN DEVATMA’S unique vow at the prime age of Thirty Two, one of this teaching was;

May the beautiful truth and goodness;

May foremost aim of the world;

And in the service of the world;

My life be fully spent.’

These teachings are the strong pillars of value education for the students   .Madam  Principal Dr Sangeeta appreciated the student’s work and motivated them to follow the teachings of BHAGWAN DEVATMA JI.

SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOP ON NUTRITIOUS AND NUTTY COOKIES

 To provide students the opportunities to explore new activities and develop new skills, the Department of Home Science and Nutrition and Dietetics organized a skill building workshop cum revenue generation campaign for the students on Nutritious and nutty cookies on 4th Feb,2023. Students under the DSCW incubation cell prepared nutritious and nutty cookies. They prepared different types of cookies by using wheat flour, jaggery and nuts. The Main objective of this campaign was to enhance their creative and entrepreneurial skills and to give them platform where they can showcase their talent. Dr.Vandana (Head, Department of Home Science) explained the variations that can be done to make cookies more variant and nutritious. she also discuss the various tips  how to make accurate bater for the cookies. Around 25 students participated in this workshop and learnt to prepare cookies. After then volunteer students displayed individual cookies in college campus for sale. The students earned approx. Rs 150 profit from this sale. Dr. Sangeeta, Officiating Principal appreciated the students work .This hands on practice made learning more meaningful, valuable and rewarding.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT   AT VERKA PLANT

 FEROZEPUR

A one-day industrial visit was organized for B. Voc Nutrition and Dietetics students   to the well-established processing unit “VERKA" plant near Ferozepur on 3rd Feb 2023. The industrial visit was organized by Ms. Kamaldeep Kaur Assistant professor of Nutrition and Dietetics department, DSCW, Ferozepur VERKA plant was incorporated in 2020 and has been promoted by Mr. Bikramjeet   singh along with company members. The company is involved in production process, quality check, and packaging department. The company sells varios processed and semi processed products such as sterilized fluid milk , ghee ,butter, skimmed milk powder, paneer ,milk cake etc  in the domestic as well as export markets. The promoters of the company are very well experienced and have experience in managing similar line of businesses. Punjab total milk production is around   three crore liters per day, out of which 1.25 crore liters sold in market. Plant was recently established and commenced operations from November 23, 2022.

During the visit Bikramjeet Singh Mahal General manager of VERKA plant gave a detailed description to the students about the plant and Markfed Cooperation with plant.

Students got an exposure on the practical aspect of various techniques of production. Dr. Sangeeta, officiating Principal , encouraged the department to organise more such visits to enhance the knowledge of students. Students also   appreciate the visit and said it provides them good exposure.

EXHIBITION-CUM-SALE OF INNOVATIVE HANDMADE ARTICLES

 

Department of Fashion Designing organised a revenue generation campaign an ‘exhibition-cum-sale’ of Innovative hand-made articles on the occasion of ‘Annual Mela 2023’ (12th Feb 2023). The students under the DSCW Incubation Cell prepared various articles such as utility bags, scrunchies, pouches, jewellery, macrame articles etc. Students displayed all these articles in very creative manner and sold the products.

The main objective behind the exhibition-cum-sale was to motivate the students to work hard and provide them a platform where they can showcase their work and to develop entrepreneurial skills.

Students got an opportunity to sell their articles which motivate them to earn while learning. The fund of Rs 1990/- was generated from the sale that was deposited in college accounts. Dr Sangeeta, Officiating Principal, encouraged the work and creativity of students. This event helps the students to learn the process to establish startups for maximum revenue generation and sustainability.






SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOP

Healthy and Nutritious Breakfast Recipes for Sustainable Health

 

Everybody   probably aware about the famous quote that “Health is Wealth”. To promote good health, The Department of Home Science organized a skill building workshop on 24th Feb,2023 on topic Healthy and Nutritious Breakfast Recipes for Sustainable Health. The main objective of this workshop was to prepare

the students as cooking Professionals through hands on experience and to enhance the creativity skills. This   Workshop also helps to empower the young girls through Skill development training for maintaining healthy life style.

Faculty members of the Department demonstrated the 2different breakfast recipes –Khaman Dhokla and Suji Idli. Dr. Vandana Gupta explained the importance of healthy diet in our life and demonstrated the method of making Khaman Dhokla and Suji Idli.The students of ED cell, department of Home Science, DSCW prepared these recipies and set up a counter to display and sale of these food products at nominal cost. The faculty members and students are invited to relish the nutritious and tasty breakfast.  This gesture was appreciated by all the invitees.

Our honorable Officiating Principal Dr Sangeeta graced the event with her presence and motivated the participants to engaged more and more in such kind of workshops. It was a very fruitful workshop. This workshop has helped the students to explore new facts about cooking techniques and to become self-entrepreneurs.

 WORKSHOP ON JEWELLARY DESIGNING AND PICHHWAI ART

 

A Skilled workshop on jewellery designing and  Pichhwai art under the banner of Earn while you learn cell was organsied by the post Graduate Department of Fashion Designing fom 3-4th March, 2023.

Around 50 students of B.Voc Textile and Fashion technology and M.Sc Fashion Designing participated in this workshop. The main objective to organise this skilled workshop was to imbibe practical art and technical skills and knowledge to  the students, so that the students get the opportunity to use their skills to get small earning while learning. The resource person for this workshop was Ms Yukti Karva, certified Fevicryl Trainner.  She demonstrated techniques of making jewellery to the students.  After that she gave hands-on-training of Picchhwai art to the students. Students illustrated traditional motifs of Picchhwai art and painted canvases of different sizes with variety of colors and prepared beautiful paintings. Students enjoyed this workshop and was beneficial for updating their practical knowledge.

EXHIBITION CUM SALE – APNA BAZAAR

Under the theme of KARIGARI SE KAROBARI, Department of Home Science and Nutrition and dietetics, Department of Fashion Designing under the banner of Earn while you learn and Entrepreneurship cell of Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur in Collaboration with MGNCRE (Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India  organized a Revenue generation activity named as APNA BAZAAR on 7th March, 2023.

The respective departments have following SHG’s of students i.e

1.     Foodienator – Department of Home Science and Nutrition & Dietetics,

2.     Vogue – PG Department of Fashion Designing

In this Bazaar, students of Foodienator SHG from Home Science and Nutrition & Dietetics department prepared two types of Dokhla and Chocolate Cake for display and sale in APNA BAZAAR. In addition to this, the students of Vogue  SHG from Fashion Designing Department also prepared eco-friendly bags, pichhwai art canvas paintings, coffee art paintings, jewellery and scrunches for Exhibition and sale. Students prepared beautiful hand made products by using their imagination and creativity and depicted their patriotic thoughts in the most appealing manner.

The purpose of this activity was to make the students more skilful and become financially independent. Promoting entrepreneurship goes beyond assisting incumbent entrepreneurs and business owners; it also encompasses inculcating an enterprising spirit among young students because adolescents are the source of the next wave of entrepreneurs. The Officiating Principal, Dr Sangeets and faculty of DSCW appreciated and purchased the products prepared by the students.

 

The Entrepreneurship development cell and Earn while you learn cell of DSCW, designed Self Help Groups (SHGs) of students to promote both entrepreneurship and workmanship. These SHG”s of DSCW frequently engaged in promoting various skills through workshop. Exhibition, sales, training programmes etc.

INDUSTRIL VISIT TO NAGESH KNITWERS, LUDHIANA

Department of Fashion designing organised an industrial visit to Nagesh Knitwear, Ludhiana on 14th March , 2023 for the students of B.Voc Textile and Fashion Technology and M.sc Fashion Designing. Thirty three students along with two faculty members visited the industry. Industrial textile unit visit is one the important element of professional education especially for fashion designing stream. By industry visit students can learn about textile factories and mills, the production cycle, and the roles of textile workers. The main purpose of visit was to acquaint the students about industrial exposure working of industrial machines including circular knitting machine, air jet machine, flat bed manual and automatic machines, embroidery machines, Linking machines etc. Along with this, students got to know about various sections such as washing, dyeing, embroidery, checking,  Mending, quality control, Packaging  and cartooning. The production head of the industry, Mr Tarun shared  his views regarding the wider scope of this vocational stream of Fashion Designing and appreciated the interest shown by the students.

DRUG AWARENESS RALLY

 

To increase awareness and knowledge of the potential health, social and legal consequences of illicit drug use the Department of Home Science and Department of FashionDesigning in collaboration with NSS team organized the DRUG AWARENESS RALLY in Ferozepur city on 21st March 2023. This rally campaign is aimed at making our students and public aware of the dangers involved in drug abuse and to inform about the harmful effects of new psychoactive drugs..

 

The rally was well-attended, with people of all ages and backgrounds coming together to support the cause. The Students of Home Science and Fashion Designing Department and NSS , carried banners, props and posters with anti-drug messages and walked through the streets, distributing leaflets and talking to people about the harmful effects and consequences of drug addiction. During the rally about Drug Abuse related information was sensitized among the people.The rally started from the college campus covered residential area falling within 3 km from the campus, More than 70 students and teachers eagerly participated in this rally. Worthy Principal Madam, Dr Sangeeta, motivated the students to participate in awareness programmes for the benefits of society. This rally was co-ordinated by Dr Vandana, Head Department of Home Science, Mrs Rabia, Programme Officer NSS Wing, Dr Sapna, Assistant Professor in Deptt of English, Dr Khushwinder Gill, Assistant professor, Department of Fashion Designing, Ms. Kamaldeep Kaur, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Mrs Chanderika, Assistant professor, Department of Fashion Designing. Participating in the rally was a reminder that as individuals, wehave a role to play in creating a drug-free society, and that by working together, we can make a positive difference.



REPORT

ON

COOKING COMPETITION ORGANISED BY SSHG

 SSHG (student shelf help group) of department of Home Science and Nutrition and Dietetics (Foodienator) of DSCW,Ferozepur in collaboration with MGNCRE organised a cooking competition on 10th April, 2023.In this competition Tanveer kaur ,BA final year(Member of Foodienator)  was the moderator. Around 20 students participated in this competition in 7 different teams. Each team consists of three members. Each team prepared three dishes (1 snack,1 drink,1 dessert). They prepared and displayed their dishes in very creative way . The purpose of this activity was to enhance skills of students for entrepreneurship and workmanship. Principal Dr.Sangeeta and faculty members of the Department ( Dr. Vandana Head of Home Science and Ms. Kamaldeep kaur Head of Nutrition and Dietetics) was on judgement panel and give their judgement on the basis of Hedonic scale . Team 1 got 1st position, Team 2 and 4 got 2nd position and Team 5 got 3rd position. To motivate and appreciate the students e-certificate of participation were provided to all the participants and trophies were distributed to the winner teams.

OF

FASHION SHOW (ASTITVA 2023)

The Self Help Student Group, P.G. Department of Fashion Designing under the Patronage of Shriman Nirmal Singh Dhillon, Chairman, DSCW, FZR. and able guidance of our worthy Principal, Dr. Sangeeta organized a Fashion Show ' Astitva 2023'  on 11th April, 2023 in the college premises. The beautiful and gorgeous students from every department took part in the show as models. The ramp show was dazzling with outstanding designer works by the fellow students of our Fashion Designing Department. It was a theme-based show as students showcased traditional, casual, handmade accessories and innovative dresses etc.

Madam Manisha Modi was the Chief Guest of this Show. Ms. Shweta, Ms. Smiley, Ms. Ghazal Gaba, Miss Shakti Ohri, Ms. Shelly Batra, Ms. Shelly Chada, the former students of the college, who have attainted highest positions in Beauty and Fashion Designing world at the National as well as International level were the guests in the program. The participants were performed very well in the event. Madam Principal highly appreciated the efforts of all the teachers of the department and she also honoured the winning students among the guests.
